Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Blanks Williams

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – Junior forward Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored twice and sophomore goaltender Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) made 23 saves for his first career shutout, as the Trinity College Bantams handed the visiting Williams College Ephs a 3-0 loss in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this evening at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity improves to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC with its third win in a row and extends its unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1).  Williams drops to 4-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the league with its second straight setback.

Sabitsky broke a scoreless tie two minutes into the final period when his wrist shot in transition trickled into the net after the puck had appeared to be stopped by Williams sophomore goalie Michael Pinios (Laval, Quebec).  On a power play 9:13 later, Sabitsky scored again on a rebound after the initial shot by classmate Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) had hit iron.  Whitney and senior forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) assisted on both Sabitsky goals.  The Ephs came up empty on a power play moments later, as Morin saved both Williams shots during the two-minute stretch, and Trinity junior defenseman Connor Hegarty (Wakefield, Mass.) scored an empty-netter, with an assist credited to Morin, shortly after Williams pulled Pinios near the one-minute mark.

Trinity had a couple chances early, as sophomore forward Mark Knowlton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) hit a post five minutes into the game, and rookie forward Adam Anderson (Hugo, Minn.) tapped the puck wide of an open net from close range midway through the first period.  Sophomore forward Marcus Mollica (Dove Canyon, Calif.) ripped a shot from 12 feet away straight-on just under seven minutes into the contest for Williams, while Morin left his feet and deny Eph senior forward Tyler Young (Sayville, N.Y.) in the final minute of the second period.

The teams were even statistically, as Williams held a 23-to-22 shooting edge and both teams were penalized four times for eight minutes.  Pinios finished with 19 saves for the Ephs.  Trinity, playing at home for the first time since December 4, hosts Middlebury tomorrow at 4 p.m. and Williams visits Wesleyan tomorrow at 3 p.m.
